Purity Products and Vitamin Angels are Helping Children See - One Cup of Coffee at a Time

In today’s fast paced world, it is difficult to find time to give back and make a difference in the world.

Purity Products, a nutritional and health products company in Great Neck, NY, created an initiative called “Coffee Clutch for a Cure.” They charge 25 cents for each cup of coffee sold through their vending machines and all of the proceeds go to Vitamin Angels’ “Operation 20/20” campaign to eradicate childhood blindness caused by vitamin A deficiency worldwide by the year 2020.

“It’s a very low tech, low cost way to solve a major global health problem,” says Howard Schiffer, founder and president of Vitamin Angels, a nonprofit that has been providing vital nutrition and fighting vitamin A deficiency around the world since 1994. “The cost for the entire program including the two vitamin A capsules per year is only 25 cents per child.”

Every person who purchases a cup of coffee at Purity Products is giving back by saving a child from going blind. With 150 employees, they have been able to generate upwards of $600 a month through their Coffee Clutch for a Cure program, amounting to over $5,000 a year that is donated to Vitamin Angels.

“At Purity Products, a cup of coffee can prevent a child from going blind,” says Jahn Levin, president of Purity Products. “We take enormous pride in donating funds monthly to support Vitamin Angels’ ongoing efforts to make the world a healthier place to live.”

Their coffee initiative is not the only contribution Purity Products makes to Vitamin Angels. They also make an annual donation, that last year exceeded $50,000.

In the last three years, Vitamin Angels has distributed over 300 million vitamins and other supplements in over 80 countries worldwide. Last year, Vitamin Angels distributed vitamins and other supplements to reach over 7 million children, lactating mothers and babies in 40 countries worldwide.
